This month we’d like to invite you and the young people of your family to participate in our Short Story Writing Contest! We’ll be giving away a $100 prize to the best fictional story submitted about the characters in Jimmy Valiant: Scions of Danger. Submissions should be original stories written for ages 11 to 15 dealing with themes of biblical family teamwork and godly protection. The story should adhere to the 10 Commandments of the SAICFF as well, and run between 5,000 and 10,000 words. The winning story will also be published in the Jimmy Valiant art book when released!

The deadline for submissions is December 10, 2001, so get your creative ink flowing. Writing a short story can be a great and fun exercise in writing and grammar as well as an opportunity for you or your young people to develop their creative skill. Add elements about government or science to the story so that your young people can research a valuable topic to equip them for the future. The opportunities for fun, memory-making, and valuable learning are prolific!

Send you short story submissions or questions to the e-mail address standfast@perseveroblog.com.

John MacArthur on Vengeance v. Forgivess

Posted on August 30, 2011

This quote from John MacArthur gives a bit of a glimpse into why we chose to make a Christian action thriller show dealing with the theme of vengeance v. forgiveness.

‎”Vengeance is popular today; forgiveness is not. Retaliation is often portrayed as virtue reflecting healthy self-esteem. It is heralded as an inalienable right of personal freedom. Vengeance is evidence of macho strength.

“Dirty Harry takes aim at the perp and, challenging him to flee, intones, ‘Go ahead. Make my day.’ That is the existential moment in which his persona is defined. He will achieve personal fulfillment if he can kill the miscreant. . . .

“Almost no concept is more important to the Christian faith than forgiveness.”

Introductory words to John MacArthur’s book Forgiveness (Crossway, 1998).
